In the Shadow of the Falcon Narrated by DEREK JONES
The peregrine falcon is one of the world's most spectacular birds of prey. This story is about the handful of wardens - men like Roy Dennis of the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds - who watch over such rare creatures and ensure they can breed in peace. We share his anxieties as he guards a pair of peregrines at a remote glen in the central Highlands of Scotland. With him we are able to watch the private life of the peregrine falcons at their cliff-face site as they feed and rear their young.

Islands of the Grey Wind
In Orkney, they say, only the climate is rough: the landscape is gentle, the islands ' like sleeping whales'.
Today, three naturalists, Orcadian Sheila Spence , and incomers David Lea and John Crothers , bring us some of the sights and sounds of Orkney in winter-wide moor-lands and peaceful lochs, soft-eyed seal pups waiting to be fed and the wild melancholy cry of whooper swans.

with Gavin Millar
Robert Altman is one of the most accomplished film-makers in the world. His output has the kind of unexpected and original stamp that can provoke fury as much as idolatry. With M*A*S*H and Nashville, he has gathered around himself a regular production team and stable of actors. His new film is A Wedding which has attracted the usual crop of contradictory notices. It opens here on 28 December. Arena: Cinema presents an exclusive interview with ALTMAN plus news of Karel Reisz 's new film, the story of a Vietnam veteran, Dog Soldiers.
