At the turn of the century France's most notorious political trial took place. Alfred Dreyfus, a Jewish officer on the General Staff, was accused of selling secrets to the Germans. Dreyfus was condemned to life imprisonment on Devil's Island but his family and friends continued to fight to prove his innocence. The tide turned with the publication of Emile Zola 's famous open letter to the government entitled ' I Accuse '.

Sensational reports have been coming in from all over the world of encounters with unknown flying objects and their occupants. A housewife in Staffordshire saw two space-suited men looking down at her from a huge metallic disc. A peasant in Brazil reported being taken into a spacecraft, and was later said to be suffering from exposure to radiation.
Many theories have been advanced about what is going on. In this documentary Hugh Burnett talks to some of the people who have seen strange things and others who have been puzzling over what, to them, is a very alarming phenomenon.
