A Prospect of England
An aerial anthology of film, poetry and music with Sir John Betjeman the Poet Laureate.
This film looks from the air at England through the seasons of the year. From the cliffs of Cornwall to the Fame Islands, from Castle Howard to Harlow New Town -this is a land of wild uplands and tamed suburbia, of rural solitude and seaside holiday camps, of industrial chimneys and landscaped gardens, of Roman walls, Georgian canals, steam engines and motorways.
For his commentary SIR JOHN BETJEMAN has chosen verse from the English poets, ranging from Shakespeare to Philip Larkin. Voices:
MICHAEL HORDERN
RICHARD PASCO

The Great Wine Revolution
In the past ten years more and more people all over the world have taken to drinking table wine. To keep pace the industry has had to call on scientists to help transform the age-old ways of growing grapes and making wine. A new technology is solving the problem in California. In Europe much remains to be done if the notorious
' wine lake', much of it inferior stuff, is to be satisfactorily drained. At the same time scientists are investigating the ultimate mysteries: what gives each type of wine its distinctive taste? Why does the bouquet improve as it lies in a bottle for years? Could the effects of ageing be hastened on? If their work is successful, could it lead to fine wines, equal to vintage Bordeaux or Burgundies, at supermarket prices? Narrator PAUL VAUGHAN
