In 1975 the first-ever Schools Prom was held when over 400 schoolchildren aged between five and 18 played before a capacity audience in the Royal Albert Hall. This year with nearly 800 talented youngsters, including a National Song and Dance Ensemble from the Soviet Union, taking part, the beloved term ' Prom' takes on a new dimension.

A television pop opera Music by Carl Davis

Lyrics by John Wells with Orpheus, whose music has the power to entrance his listeners, is here updated to the role of a busker in the London Underground. This version of the legend, in which his girlfriend Eurydice is pursued by an amorous commuter, unfolds amidst the tunnels, trains, lifts and escalators of a strange and distorted Underworld. The music itself is built around eight pop songs.

Rachel Day was a housemaid who joined the Skeleton Army - rowdies hired by the brewers in 1890 to break up the Salvation Army's temperance meetings. She and others like her were involved in affrays throughout Southern England. The story of Rachel's fall from grace is told in this film, made with a cast of Berkshire people and professional actors.
