First of two films from top French wildlife film-makers Gerald Calde ron and Jean-Marie BauHe.
The oak is one of the most important trees in European woodlands: many animals - blue tits, jays, squirrels, cockchafers and wild boars - depend on it for shelter. Even when it dies and has fallen, the oak still contributes to wood-land life. Strange creatures of damp and decay live inside the rotting trunk forming new soil-the nursery for a sprouting acorn.
