Tonight from BBC South West Angel of Spence Bay Judy Hill , a young, attractive nurse from Devon, was working with the Eskimos of the Arctic when she died in a plane crash. The story reached the banner headlines of almost every newspaper in the world.
But, even before then, Judy had become part of Arctic folklore in the far-flung world of Spence Bay. For the Eskimos in a settlement of 400 she was doctor, dentist, public health inspector and nurse, all at the same time.
Jim McDougall has been to the Arctic to find out more about
Judy's life before the fateful crash. He has discovered that out of tragedy has come hope for the future.
