An Enquiry into Advertising

Twenty-one years ago you saw your first television commercial. Today ads are everywhere: on TV and radio, in newspapers and magazines, on posters and passing buses. Last year we spent nearly £1,000-million on advertising. Is this money well spent? Or is advertising a blight on our society, distorting our sense of values and creating needs we do not feel?

John Tusa chairs this evening's discussion of the role of advertising in Britain today before a representative studio audience.

Presenting the case for advertising: Jeremy Bullmore, Harold Lind, Peter Marsh, Peter Thomson

Making the case against advertising: Fred Inglis, Derek Morris, Eirlys Roberts, Raymond Williams
