A series of six programmes 3: The Camera-Maker
' Now if I can't see what a customer wants, I'm in a bit of a nutter. It's a bit of a worry until
I get hold of a plane and a piece of wood, and then all is peace.'
(FREDERIK GANDOLFI , camera-maker)
The Kodak and the miniature camera brought photography into the realms of a popular art from the complex business of plate photography as practised so magnificently by the Victorians. Yet, even today, the fine hand-made plate camera is still the instrument of the professional and none finer or more desirable than the Gandolfi. In London FREDERIK and ARTHUR GANDOLFI still manufacture entirely by hand these splendid and much-valued instruments. Narrated by KENNETH HUDSON
