How these came about has been the lifelong concern of Professor William Hoskins. His years of careful observation of many different landscapes show how much man has influenced his surroundings.
How did the English landscape begin? And how much of man's earliest imprint on the landscape is still visible?
Professor Hoskins leads us to the lonely heaths, remote valleys and quiet villages and towns of Dorset to show how generations of men and women have shaped the ancient landscape.
