How Others Saw Us ...
What sort of pictures did television viewers across the world have of Great Britain in 1975? Worldwide reverses its usual role to see how some of the London correspondents of world television services reported back home on us. The results were funny, gloomy, often critical, sometimes flattering....
' A British virtue,' the Japanese enthused, ' is that they make do and mend.'
' The British disease,' the Swiss diagnosed, ' is caused by a lack of economic flexibility.'
' Does the Queen really need five palaces?' asked the Australians. ' The only thing certain,' concluded the Americans, ' is that the Scots will never bite you to death.' Frank Gillard introduces views of 1975 and thoughts for 1976.

A short season of Oscar-winning films to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Columbia Pictures.
Starring Broderick Crawford, John Ireland
with Mercedes McCambridge, Joanne Dru

Idealist Willie Stark is elected Governor of a mid-Western state, but the corruption he campaigned against soon threatens his own administration.

Adapted from the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel by Robert Penn Warren, it is reputedly based on the career of Huey Long, the Governor of Louisiana, assassinated in 1935. All The King's Men received an Academy Award in 1949 for the best film of the year, and Oscars went to Broderick Crawford (as best actor) and Mercedes McCambridge (as best supporting actress).
