This week: 1965-1967
After ten years and more than 400 programmes, Man Alive looks back, in a short season, at some of its more memorable moments in the last decade.
Desmond Wilcox comments and also explains how the new lightweight camera equipment available in 1965 enabled Man Alive to get away from the pundits to people - ordinary people. Neighbours who rowed with each other; the men who cheat their bumper-car customers at the fair; the election candidates who were a hundred per cent sure to lose; and Cousin Brucie the New York disc jockey who advised nine-year-olds on their sex problems - ten years ago.

In the vegetable garden, PERCY THROWER makes successional sowings of globe beetroot, stump rooted carrots, turnips, swede and lettuce.
At this time of the year, it is essential to use any spare ground available for the growing of later crops, or as the gardener would can them - ' catch crops.' This applies more to the South and Midlands than to the Northern areas, but even in these areas it is well worth the risk of sowing beetroot, carrots, salad onions, lettuce, radish and endives, and keeping a portion of the garden for autumn sown onions and spring cabbage to be sown next month. In the event of the soil being very dry, as it has been during the early part of the summer, watering along the drills before sowing the seed will hasten germination.
