Devika Devika Rajbans is a 20-year-old design student in Bombay. She's talented, ambitious and beautiful -born in an India free from foreign rule and increasingly free from repressive social customs.

James Blades , veteran percussionist and a leading authority in his field, beat his drum for the BBC's overseas war-time V signal and struck his tam-tam for the boom of the J. Arthur Rank gong. Join him on a tour of orchestral percussion instruments and their history, liberally spiced with anecdotes from 50 years' experience. He is assisted on the piano, and sometimes on other instruments by his wife, Joan Goossens.
