2: The Harvest of the Seasons
DR BRONOWSKI begins this second programme with the Long Spring at the end of the Ice Ages. As the ice retreats and the land flowers, Man the hunter turns to agriculture, domesticating plant and animal, imposing his will on the wild wheat and the horse. Is the bitter conflict between the settled farmer and the mounted warrior? Dr Bronowski discovers the intellectual roots of war, and shows how even the descendants of the mightiest warrior of all, Ghengis Khan , were finally compelled to settle.
