Cecil Beaton - Summer in Arcadia Since 1930 Cecil Beaton 's private world has revolved around Wiltshire and in particular two houses -Ashcombe, scene of youthful fantasies and ' sophisticated rusticity,' and Reddish, his present home, where he escapes from the social frenzy of London to paint, write and tend his garden.

In 1964 a rock group called THE WHO made their first public appearance in a pub in Harrow. The line-up was PETE TOWNSHEND (guitar, vocals), JOHN ENTWHISTLE (bass guitar, vocals), KEITH MOON (drums) and ROGER DALTREY (lead vocals).
Ten years later the same band hold an undisputed position among the rock giants of the age. In the first part of the programme MELVYN BRAGG talks to PETE TOWNSHEND, guitarist, composer and leader of THE WHO.

In front of an audience of some 80,000 rock enthusiasts, THE WHO play a selection of their old hit singles and extracts from their best-selling albums.
