Not since Dick Whittington has a countryman caused such a stir in the City of London. First, a tradition of 600 years was broken to honour him; then cameras were allowed at a ceremony which, since the Middle Ages, only members have witnessed. His name is Eric Arthur Stevenson, and for 40 years he has been a village blacksmith in Wroxham, on the Norfolk Broads. He tells his story of how a country craftsman came to be honoured by the City.

The result of Hollywood's brief flirtation with the Nouvelle Vague, Paris Blues was filmed in Paris by Kazan protege Martin Ritt. It features Paul Newman as an expatriate trombonist and his wife, Joanne Woodward, as a love-starved American tourist. In the background are all the trimmings of the jazz scene, including such greats as Duke Ellington and the late Louis Armstrong who leads a memorable and explosive jam session in the club where Newman plays.
