A programme for children at home
Presenters this week, Miranda Connell, Lionel Morton
Today's story: "The New Sound" by Joanne Cole

Would you like to be in a pop group and play a guitar? Lionel's story today is about a very strange guitar and Miranda tries to make a real one she can play. Violins, trumpets, flutes, and a harp are some of the other musical instruments Miranda and Lionel find in Play School this week.

Ten programmes on career opportunities for young adults
with Paddy Feeny and Percy Walton, Secretary, Institute of Youth Employment Officers

What are the prospects for young adults in industry? What opportunities do they have to start with? Today's programme explains the structure of industry and illustrates it with examples of the daily work of two young production engineers-a designer working on jet engines, and a technical sales representative selling agricultural machinery. The need to re-train for industrial jobs is emphasised by Professor Pat Rivett of Sussex University. He says: 'The knowledge with which you start work and even the knowledge you have gained in your first few years of training will not last you much more than ten years. Training and education are like washing. You cannot hope to do it only once in your life and still remain a useful member of society.'

Three plays by Jean Benedetti

In a quiet and oppressive seminary in Tiflis, Georgia, a young man is studying for the priesthood. For him religion is the evil that has cursed mankind. His sights are set on higher things than a priesthood. To achieve his aims he is holding and attending secret meetings to talk about revolution. This man is destined for a place in history. He will eventually take Russia from a peasant land to become a world power in less than two decades.
