Ten programmes on career opportunities for young adults
with Paddy Feeny and Percy Walton, Secretary, Institute of Youth Employment Officers

What are the prospects for young adults in industry? What opportunities do they have to start with? Today's programme explains the structure of industry and illustrates it with examples of the daily work of two young production engineers-a designer working on jet engines, and a technical sales representative selling agricultural machinery. The need to re-train for industrial jobs is emphasised by Professor Pat Rivett of Sussex University. He says: 'The knowledge with which you start work and even the knowledge you have gained in your first few years of training will not last you much more than ten years. Training and education are like washing. You cannot hope to do it only once in your life and still remain a useful member of society.'
