Ten programmes for home dress-makers who want to extend their skill and keep up to date with fashion trends

Demonstration: Ann Ladbury
Fitting: Beryl Rouse

The pattern used in this evening's programme is a basic wrap-over day dress. You can see how it can be adapted in eight different ways to suit both the very young and the more mature figure. Among the styles are a street dress, a charming beach wrap to wear over a bathing costume, and an extremely glamorous hostess gown trimmed with feathers.

A series of plays specially written by famous authors featuring distinguished English and Continental actresses in solo performances
[Starring] Genevieve Page

Madeleine married her boss and lived to regret it. Her husband's chronic allergies and oppressive business methods rob her of her freedom. The scene is set on the terrace of their country house in France, where Madeleine works within sight of her bees, with her husband, Gabriel, spying on her from an upstairs window. Suddenly something in Madeleine snaps!

Genevieve Page is one of the most distinguished-and beautiful -young actresses of the French stage. Most of her work has been with the principal national French companies, particularly with Jean Louis Barrault. She has appeared in many films, notably in Bunuel's recent Belle de Jour.

This week: The Approved School
Close on 10,000 of our children - the vast majority of them boys - are now in approved schools, but what good does it do them? They're aged between eight and nineteen years, and they will be kept there for anything up to three years at a cost averaging £23 9s. 6d. a week. And within a short time of their release two out of three of the boys will be in trouble with the law again.
There are 121 of these schools in Britain, often in isolated country mansions far removed from the environment the boys knew and imposing a way of life quite different from the life many of them have known and will return to.
In tonight's programme Man Alive goes inside an approved school in Essex, described by the Home Office as 'average,' and meets the boys and the masters in charge of them.
