What thoughts are his, in the high air?
Flight
- to the poet, the great liberation with beauty on every side
- to the pilot, a practical trade
- to the passenger, a delight, or a nightmare
From King's Cup Air Race to Red Arrows aerobatic team in gliders and powered planes; this film explores the thoughts-lyric and prosaic-of those who take to the air.
From Wales

Producer Derek Trimby had been reading a collection of poems about flying just before he met the chief instructor of a local flying club, and was full of the wonder of flight, the beauty of cloudscape, the excitement and freedom of the air. But he soon discovered that flying is essentially a practical trade. This clash was the starting point for tonight's film which sets out to explore the poetic and prosaic attitudes to man's flight.
