Gordon Wilkins covers the world of the armoured fighting vehicle.

Tanks broke the stalemate of trench warfare at the Battle of Cambrai in 1917 and opened the way to an Allied victory. Since then, their role has been a matter for dispute. In the Second World War did our own generals make better use of this British invention than Germany and Russia? Could fighting vehicles have been more fully developed to save troops' lives?
Wheelbase reports from Bovington Camp in Dorset where the tank driver of today is trained, and the tanks of yesterday, among them the first British prototype 'Little Willie', have their own Royal Armoured Corps Museum.
