Michael Berkeley 's guest today is one of the most successful contemporary
American novelists, Jane Smiley. Among her musical choices are American folk music, Mozart, Beethoven and Donizetti.
Catherine Bott is joined by fellow soprano Emma Kirkby to explore the English lute song repertoire, which reached its peak in the first half of the 17th century with composers such as Dowland, Ferrabosco and Henry and William Lawes.
