The stride piano style's finest flowering was in the playing of Fats Waller , who died 60 years ago. In this four-part series, Alyn Shipton explores the history of the twofisted style. 1: Handful of Keys. Stride piano

City and after the First World War it arrived in New York. Featuring the music of Eubie Blake , James P Johnson , Willie "the Lion" Smith, Butch Thompson and Fats himself.

Puccini's final opera contains his two favourite female character types, with the neurotic Chinese Princess Turandot, who sets impossibly cryptic riddles for all her would-be suitors and then has them executed when they fail to guess the answer, and the self-sacrificing slave-girl Liu, who dies for her impossible love.
