Vaughan Williams - Symphonies
The robust, almost abrasive tone of some of Vaughan Williams 's inter-warworks came as a shock to many of his listeners but, as Donald Macleod discovers, they reflected a passionate, sometimes fiery nature hidden beneath the composer's English reserve.

L'Amour de Loin
" Love from afar" is the first opera by the Finnish composer Kaija Saariaho , with a libretto by the French-Lebanese author
Amin Maalouf. Ittells the tale of the 12th-century French troubadour JaufreRudel, Prince of Blaye, who falls in love with Clémence, Countess of Tripoli, without seeing her, but through hearing stories about her from a travelling pilgrim.
Saariaho creates a unique soundworld of medieval courtly love and restrained passions using troubadour-like melodies and electronic effects. Recorded at the Barbican, London, last November. Presented by Anthony Burton. Saariaho L 'Amour de Loin
