4: Vienna. In the autumn of 1763 Hasse found himself and his wife "released from employment without pension" from the court opera in Dresden. However, the judicious Hasse had temporarily moved his family to Vienna. While his prospects in Dresden diminished, so he usefully began to collaborate with the Viennese court poet Pietro Metastasio , and when his Dresden contract ceased, Vienna welcomed him with open arms.
