One Hundred Years of Hitchcock
To mark the Hitchcock centenary,
Peter Conrad reassesses the impact of his 53 films, from The Pleasure
Garden (1925) to Family Plot (1976). New interviews with director Peter
Bogdanovich, Psycho screenwriter Joseph Stefano and Hitchcock's daughter Patricia are blended with archive interviews with stars and colleagues, including the famous conversation between Hitchcock and Truffaut. Hitchcock's films terrified audiences and established film-making as an art form. When he went to America in 1939, his reputation was already secure. But behind the popularity, there was a darker side - stories of control and victimisation surface alongside anecdotes about his kindness and prankish humour.
Producer Nicola Barranger
