Five Poets
With Peggy Reynolds.
3: Keats. John Keats was in many ways the picture of the Romantic poet. He was ardent and sensitive; he wrote intensively over a very short period, producing a series of masterpieces; and he died young, even by the standards of the day. Music includes excerpts from: Bridge The Devon Maid

3: Dies Irae. Lully was a dissolute character, so his 30 or so settings of sacred texts for the church come as something of a surprise. Perhaps the judgement of history obscures a man who held deeper beliefs than he is usually credited with. Robert King explores another side of the composer. Mystery and Adventure
"Every concert is an adventure, and how its programme comes about is often a mystery." So says the winner of the 1997 Umberto Micheli piano competition, Aleksandar Madzar. He certainly presents a dazzling and unusual programme tonight, including one of the peaks of the virtuoso piano repertoire in Ravel's dark and incandescent triptych Gaspard de la Nuit. Piers Lane meets the young Yugoslavian pianist and introduces a recital he gave last month in the Queen Elizabeth Hall on London's South Bank, in which he plays Gaspard alongside music by Berg, Scarlatti and Berio. Producer Chris Wines
