Ivo Pogorelich was talent-spotted by a visiting Russian professor. At the age of 11, he left home for the Tchaikovsky Conservatoire in Moscow and the opportunity of a lifetime - an intensive musical education in Soviet Russia.

South Bank saw a distinguished line-up of soloists in the Royal Festival
Hall. They performed one of the most popular works for piano and orchestra in the repertoire and Rachmaninov's opera Francesca da Rimini, the tragic story of which is related in Dante's Inferno.
