Leonard Slatkin , Dmitri Sitkovetsky (violin). The BBC Symphony Orchestra returns to Glasgow for the first time in 63 years. Leonard Slatkin conducts the orchestra in a popular programme ending with the symphony which Shostakovich labelled his apology to the Stalinist authorities after the scathing criticism of his fourth symphony. In the fifth he wrote not only a musical apology but also one of the great symphonies of the century.
