Michael Oliver continues his exploration of the astonishing music of Gian Francesco Malipiero. Not many composers have carried on writing and experimenting into their late eighties: today's selection of works from Malipiero's final decade includes one of his most individual symphonies, five piano studies "for tomorrow" and his final orchestral work - a homage to Schoenberg. Life after Death
Five dramatised documentaries adapted from the KGB's literary archive by Vitaly Shentalinsky and presented by Professor James Riordan. 5: The Arrested Word: the File on Nikola Klyuev. One of the most important discoveries in the vaults of the KGB was the lost poetry of Nikola Klyuev. Written during the terrible campaign for total collectivisation, these poems are startling and prophetic works.
Despised and denounced by the ranks of Soviet writers, Klyuev was arrested in February 1934 but refused to recant, remaining defiant until his execution in 1937. With
Simon Russell Beale as Klyuev and Jon Strickland as Shivarov.

Rodney Greenberg features music from the folk opera Porgy and Bess. Gershwin called it his labour of love, but he did not live to see it gain acceptance in opera houses worldwide. The programme also includes his last concert piece - the Variations on "I Got Rhythm
Gershwin died in Hollywood at the age of only 38. Excerpts from his film scores show that his mastery of the popular song remained undimmed. As his brother Ira remarked, "He went back to his first love and did that better than ever before." Repeated from last Friday
