Two Strings to a Bow
The fourth of eight programmes in which Gordon Stewart explores two composers from different centuries. Debussy and Britten. These two composers' liking for literature was a driving force in their lives.
Recollections of the composers from the archives introduce music which includes Britten conducting the English Chamber Orchestra in Debussy's Prelude a I'Apres-Midi d'un Faune; the Four Sea Interludes from Britten's Peter Grimes conducted by Jascha Horenstein ;
Anne-Marie Rodde singing Debussy's early songs; and Peter Pears accompanied by the composer in Britten's On This Island.
