The English soprano who died in 1974 at the age of only 49 was a hugely versatile artist, but she was most closely associated with the music of the Baroque and that of her contemporaries, especially Benjamin Britten. Pat Metheny talks to Ian Carr about his career.
While he was still with the Gary Burton Quartet, Metheny recorded two ECM albums under his own name, one of which was Watercolors with keyboard player Lyle Mays. Metheny recalls how he came to leave the Gary Burton Quartet in 1977 and how he formed his own group with Mays.
