One of the most exciting events of the operatic season in Britain: English National Opera's world premiere production of the new opera by Gavin Bryars, staged by the acclaimed Canadian film director Atom Egoyan.
The story is a satirical version by Blake Morrison of a fantastic tale by Jules Verne. The experiment performed by the mysterious scientist Dr Ox and his assistant Ygene is to inject oxygen surreptitiously into the atmosphere of the sleepy French town of Quiquendome - with results both hilarious and alarming.
