French dancer Sylvie Guillem has been called "the prima ballerina with fire in her feet". Originally trained as a gymnast and famous for her suppleness and leg extensions, she has gained a reputation for being provocative, daring and outspoken. Guillem is now as famous for her new work as for her role in La Bayadere.

Clara tries out Robert's new Fantasy for Piano and Orchestra, with Mendelssohn conducting the Gewandhaus Orchestra. Two weeks later, she and Robert celebrate the birth of their first child, and soon after, Clara gives a spectacular concert with the visiting Liszt - whose skills as a womaniser, bon viveur and phenomenal pianist are soon overwhelmingly confirmed.

From 1928, when he became assistant to his mentor Carl Flesch in Berlin, Max Rostal exerted a creative influence on the European world of violin playing which tasted until his death in 1991. Stephen Plaistow celebrates his career as a recitalist and concerto player, including Schubert's Fantasy in C and Debussy's Violin Sonata (with Colin Horsley), Stravinsky's Duo Concertant (with Noel Mewton-Wood), Beethoven's Romance in F, and Bartok's Violin Concerto No 2 with the Royal Philharmonic, conductor Adrian Boult.
