Six lectures reflecting on the forces for change at the end of the century. 2: Of Gods and Men: Forms of Fundamentalism. Egyptian writer and political activist Nawal El Saadawi was imprisoned by Sadat for her criticism of government policy. She draws on her own experiences in this attack on religious and political oppression. Fred Halliday chairs the event before an audience in the Purcell Room on London's South Bank.
