From 1928, when he became assistant to his mentor Carl Flesch in Berlin, Max Rostal exerted a creative influence on the European world of violin playing which tasted until his death in 1991. Stephen Plaistow celebrates his career as a recitalist and concerto player, including Schubert's Fantasy in C and Debussy's Violin Sonata (with Colin Horsley), Stravinsky's Duo Concertant (with Noel Mewton-Wood), Beethoven's Romance in F, and Bartok's Violin Concerto No 2 with the Royal Philharmonic, conductor Adrian Boult.
