In the seventh of nine programmes featuring recorded performances by the great tenor, Michael Oliver introduces Domingo as the romantic figure of the poet Hoffmann in Offenbach's The Tales of Hoffmann, based on the writings of German writer, critic and composer E T A Hoffmann. In the opera's prologue, Hoffmann, who is waiting for a rendezvous with the prima donna Stella, agrees to tell his drinking companions about the three great loves of his life. Sung in French.

A new commission, in this case from Belfast-born Philip Flood, is always a strong feature of the Ulster Youth Orchestra's annual course. The City of Belfast Youth Orchestra is one of the five Area Board youth orchestras in Northern Ireland which feed into the UYO.
