English musicologist Thurston Dart died in 1971 at the age of 49. In what would have been his 75th birthday week, Fiona Talkington talks to friend and fellow musician Sir Neville
Marriner about Dart's versatility as a continuo and solo keyboard performer, an influential scholar and a dynamic teacher. Recordings from the BBC archives include excerpts from the 1959 Purcell tercentenary concert, in which Dart directed the Philomusica of London, and Couperin's Ordre No 6 in B flat, which he plays on the harpsichord.
