with Niall Buggy and Roisin Donaghy

'What does the design of the field plough, bearing on it the stars of the heavenly plough, mean, if it's not Communism? It's a flag that should only be used when we're building the barricades to fight for a Workers' Republic! '

The Life and Teachings of Rabbi Nachman of Breslov (1772-1810).
One of the greatest Jewish religious teachers and mystics, Rabbi Nachman died when he was only 38. But he said the fire he kindled would burn till the days of the Messiah.
' I tried teaching you.' said Rabbi Nachman, ' but it didn't work. So now I'll tell you stories.' They were elaborate tales in which he clothed the secrets of mystical wisdom.
In this programme, Gabriel Woolf reads one of Nachman's most famous stories, The Lost Princess, and Rabbi Adin Steinsaltz discusses its meaning. Robert Rietty reads other extracts from Rabbi Nachman 's works. Presenter Cyril Shaps

In the Welsh valleys any Italian coffee shop is called a ' bracchi '. This programme tells how the Bracchis - and other families fired with the spirit of adventure - made their fortunes in a strange land, and of the strong link that still exists between Wales and the small town of Bardi in northern Italy.

Nemours, near Origans, 1829: It is now 15 years since the extremely wealthy Dr Minoret returned to live in his native town. He is 74 and his grasping nephews and nieces eagerly await his demise. Yet more and more the good doctor seems to favour his charming young ward, Ursule. How terrible would it be if part of the inheritance were to go to her. Something must be done.

A history in 26 parts in the words of those who have made the history
1: Introduction-The Deep Sea
Sea covers 70 per cent of the globe; man himself was cradled in it. Our maritime history is a story which everyone thinks they know - and which on the whole they don't: the great unknown subject. It is an amazing human achievement, and all the more so because so much of it is salt sores, the stench of bilge-water, and weevilly biscuits.
