Nemours, near Origans, 1829: It is now 15 years since the extremely wealthy Dr Minoret returned to live in his native town. He is 74 and his grasping nephews and nieces eagerly await his demise. Yet more and more the good doctor seems to favour his charming young ward, Ursule. How terrible would it be if part of the inheritance were to go to her. Something must be done.
