Two Brothers by R. E. T. LAMB with Steve Hodson as Jimmy Geoffrey Matthews as Ben and Meg Davies as Nclian 1 It can get to be a weight. When we were kids - Dad died when we were nippers - when we were kids it was all I ever knew. Mum was out at work all day and did some jobs at night as well. I was four years older than Jimmy - nearly five - and I just looked after him. It was like being his brother and his Dad all in one.'

with the Cambridge Buskers
As a matter of interest. this programme has three great similarities with the Grand National. It's fraught with danger, the pace is hot, and lots of people are disappointed at the finish. So put your money on Stilgoe. He's no Red Rum, but he has promised he'll stay to the end.

Court in the Act
The English Stage Company began its controversial occupation of the Royal Court
Theatre in London 25 years ago. George Devine , the first artistic director, pointed the way to a ' writers' theatre ' with Look Back in Anger by John Osborne , in 1956. Since then, the Company has proved a testing ground for both new and foreign plays, a leader of taste, and an opponent of censorship.
Michael Billington reports on the English Stage Company and the influence it has had on British theatre, with the writers, directors and actors who have worked at the Royal Court. Contributors include
