Part of the reason was that the bones were deemed so precious that no one was allowed to get at them to do proper tests. Another fraud was Grigor Mendel. His experiments on pea-breeding founded the science of genetics but they are too good to be true. Mendel knew the results he wanted - and made sure he got them!
