"Diet is intrinsic to sport, "says Olympic gold medal cyclist
Chris Boardman who uses "boring" high-tech carbohydrate polymer drinks to keep his energy up for long-distance events. Meanwhile Sally Gunnell , another Olympic gold medallist, believes that wholly natural foods boosted her performance "overnight".
The Future's in the Fridge, the second programme in this five-part documentary series, looks at how top athletes are changingtheir diet in the search for a better performance.
However, not all athletes have the same attitude. Colin
Jackson is a dietician's nightmare during the non-training months of winter: "If there was a table, half covered with doughnuts, sweets, cream cakes and pizza and the other half with fish, grapes, some bananas, juice and the like, Linford [Christie] would not touch the sweet side and I would not touch the other side," he says.
