Fitness in sport has become a science, where training, equipment, diet, psychology and tactics are studied minutely in the search for improved performances.
"We are all sport scientists," says World and Olympic metres champion Linford Christie. "Wehavegotto experiment - you cannot be afraid to try things out. There is always something more you can learn. Accept that, and you are on your way to being a champion."
The training and performance of athletes, like Christie, is examined in this new series, which begins tonight with a report on the impact being made by science and technology on training. Christie and his training partner Colin Jackson , explain why so much effort is put into the first second of a sprint race and quote their catchphrase: "We say you go on the 'b' of the bang ...that's the key."
