SANDY LYLE, former Open Champion, won this event last year in a thrilling climax which saw a rash of birdies by the leaders over the closing holes. IAN WOOSNAM equalled the course record with a 62 and nearly stole the title, and after his third placing in the Open this year he will be a genuine threat to the title holder.
