Bowls
The event categories are
Singles, Pairs and Fours for men and women. They all play each other on a round-robin basis and the medals are decided on a league system. This afternoon it's Pairs (each player has four bowls) and Fours (two each) and they play 21 ends, nearest the jack wins the shot.
Badminton from Meadowbank Stadium The team event works like this: each team is made up of a single man, a single woman, a mixed doubles pair, a men's doubles pair, and a women's doubles pair, and country plays country.
Commentary by BARRY DAVIES with GERALD WILLIAMS and DEREK TALBOT
Swimming
Synchronised Swimming is a new event to the Commonwealth Games. All the soloist has to worry about is remembering her routine, not to breathe while in a submerged condition, and to listen hard for her music - twice the problem for the duettists. It's a women-only event with the exception of HAMILTON BLAND , who joins CAROLINE HOLMYARD for commentary.
Weightlifting from the Playhouse Theatre Don't be confused by the categories - there are ten of them and they relate to the competitors' body weights. This afternoon is for 52kg persons. Do be confused if you must by the lifts - the Snatch, and the Clean and Jerk (that's one).
TONY GUBBA will explain.
Shooting and Rowing
There are Free and Rapid Fire Pistols, Olympic Trench and Air Rifle pairs banging on all day.
The oarspersons are still in the heats.
