The 115th Championship from the Ailsa Course, Turnberry In 1977 a historic battle between two golfing giants was fought out - TOM WATSON and JACK NICKLAUS matched stroke for stroke over the final 36 holes of The Open championship at Turnberry. Watson won with a birdie at the last hole to complete the second of his five Open victories. Both players return today, and are joined by 152 others hoping to lift the most famous trophy in the game.
