from Lyme Regis
Introduced by Geoffrey Wheeler
For nine months of the year Lyme Regis is a small seaside town of 3,500 inhabitants; but in the summer the streets and seafront become crowded with holidaymakers. This year, to celebrate the 700th anniversary of the granting of the Royal Charter to the town, local people and visitors join together to sing favourite hymns on The Cobb, the great breakwater at the harbour mouth.
Geoffrey Wheeler joins in the holiday spirit and goes mackerel fishing with Ken Gollop. He also meets Jadiviga Lavery who was a Polish Resistance fighter, first against the Nazis and then against the Russians. She was captured by the KGB and sentenced to death, a sentence which was commuted to life imprisonment in Siberia ...
And can it be? (Sagina); Lord of all hope-fulness (Slane); Eternal Father, strong to save (Melita); To God be the glory; The Lord's my Shepherd (Crimond); I love to hear the story (Angels' Story); Dear Lord and Father of mankind (Repton); Will your anchor hold?

featuring the final day of competition Introduced by Desmond Lynam
Individual Show Jumping Final from Santa Anita Park British riders have been on the medal rostrum but never won the gold in this most prized equestrian championship. Marion Coakes on Stroller in 1968, and Ann Moore on Psalm in 1972 came closest with silver medals, and David Broome and Peter Robeson have won bronze. The British team boycotted the Games in Moscow in 1980, and at an alternative show for abstainers in Rotterdam, John Whitaker was second behind Hugo Simon of Austria. JOHN WHITAKER is in the team again this time, with his brother MICHAEL and DAVID BOWEN , TIM GRUBB and Harvey's son, STEVEN SMITH.

Men's Highboard Diving Final
The final event in the Olympic Diving Pool features a spectacular mix of twists, somersaults and pikes in this highly visual competition. Italy's Klaus Dibiasi won three consecutive golds from 1968 to 1976. Now the USA hopes to resume its domination. Commentator HAMILTON BLAND

Synchronised Swimming Final
Solo Competition
This new Olympic event features a display with swimmers judged on their performance-of approved movements. British swimmers won a clean sweep of gold medals at last year's European Championships, but the USA, Canada and Japan shared all the medals at the 1982 World Championships.

Athletics Final
The Marathon
Full coverage of the 26 miles 385 yards of this classic event. Although it takes its name from the legend of the run from Marathon to Athens, the modern distance arises from the 1908 Games in London. The race from Windsor to the White City was to have been 26 miles, but the organisers wanted the finish in front of the royal box - an extra 385 yards. Britain's runners are HUGH JONES , CHARLIE SPEDDING and GEOFF SMITH. World and Commonwealth champion ROB DE CASTELLA goes for his third major title in three years.
Commentators DAVID COLEMAN
RON PICKERING , BRENDAN FOSTER
World record: A. Salazar (USA) 2:08.13 1981
Olympic record: W. Cierpinski (GDR)
2:09.55 1976
Olympic champion: W. Cierpinski (GDR)

Closing Ceremony
DAVID COLEMAN describes the final scenes in the Olympic Stadium and the ceremonial closing of the Games, symbolised by the dying Olympic flame, but looking forward also as the athletes disperse with their memories - and some with their medals - to the XXIV Games in Seoul in 1988.
