The fifth of six programmes
Evelyn Ebsworth , Professor of Molecular Chemistry at the University of Edinburgh, talks to Ronald Eyre about the relationship between his own scientific discipline and Christian beliefs.
EBSWORTH: I do not believe that a chemical compound has a soul. I don't believe it's a thinking and spiritual being, whereas I believe that man is exactly that, that man has a spirit ... which is outside, but part of, his normal sphere of operations ... It is something that has to be recognised as part of the world we're living in. Director CHRISTOPHER MANN Producer PETER FIRTH

The fifth of six programmes Richard Baker talks to Bernadette Greevy
The international opera and concert singer, and one-time protégée of Sir John Barbirolli , recalls singing to the biggest audience of her career and probably the largest live audience of all time - one-and-a-half-million people at the open-air Papal Mass in Phoenix Park in Dublin in 1979. Her choice of music tonight is in sharp contrast to the great oratorios in which she has often sung, and reflects her taste for a more traditional and disappearing religious world: ST JAMES' CHOIR conductor THE REV JOHN O'BRIEN organist CONOR BIGGS
