Six films which try to find out 'What Makes a Good Teacher?'
It's hard to talk about method in Sean O'Regan's art-room. The atmosphere is friendly, relaxed and at first sight chaotic. Sean treats his pupils as friends and the response he gets is enormous. The true results of his teaching he believes come out in the children's 'living' rather than their work, although some of the work is exceptional.

"My days at school are marvellous; they're one happening after another. Every day becomes an excitement - I think and hope the kids are getting something from it."

Three hundred and fifty years ago, the Mayflower left Plymouth for the 'new world.' This afternoon's film tells the epic story of this tiny ship's 96-day voyage. Buffeted by winter storms, maltreated by the captain - a great performance by Spencer Tracy - and overcome by sickness, the settlers eventually set foot on the Cape Cod peninsula.

A film series in which the famous underwater explorer takes his oceanographic vessel Calypso on a voyage of adventure and scientific discovery.

Sometimes called elephant seal, this huge creature was once hunted to the point of extinction. Now colonies survive under protection, including one at Guadalupe Island, a hundred miles from Baja California. There, Cousteau and his men make an intimate film study of the sea elephants, both on land and underwater, and discover that their lives are still full of hazards.

Islam was not a new religion when it began. It was an attempt to purify the old one. So the Koran contains much of the Christian and Jewish Bible.
Tonight's film examines the origins and growth of Islam and shows something of its appeal to people from widely different backgrounds and intellectual levels.

After the film, Al Haji David Cowan, a Scot who is also a Muslim, discusses Islam with Paddy Feeny and a group of Bristol students.
