"A Certain Feeling of Bliss and of Unseriousness" encountered by Alan Whicker during Carnival in Munich

As winter ends, Munich enjoys its Fasching, an uninhibited pre-Lenten spree.
With daunting stamina the town dedicates itself to six noisy weeks of dressing-up and celebrating into the small hours. A few million sausages and seas of Bavarian beer sustain the revellers until the frenzied climax. Costumes incredibly elaborate or revealingly simple; flirting loudly exhibitionist or deadly earnest; fun, instant.
(First shown on BBC-2)
"Whicker communicated a marvellous sense of fun as he watched the whole city lurch in drunken pleasure, a hell-bent job." (J.D.S. Haworth, The Listener)
