Concours: Devinez ce nom ! ! '
JEAN-JACQUES OBERLIN and YVONNE
OBERLIN
The broadcasting of languages to schools is tending more and more to invite the participation with pen, pencil, or voice of young listeners. Spelling bees in French have already been broadcast with great success, and this afternoon a new kind of class-room competition will be broadcast. Listeners should have by them a piece of ruled paper on which they should write the numbers 1 to 10. Clues will then be given for ten words which are to be written against the appropriate numbers.

' The Great Reform Bill of 1831 and the Franchise today'
MARY STOCKS
The object of this broadcast is to show the reasons for the great Reform Bill of 1832, and to describe how it was passed and how it led to other reforms in the franchise. Three passages of narration will link a number of dramatic historical flash-backs. The first four of these deal with the Duke of Wellington's attitude towards the Lords, the Commons, and franchise ; with the great run on the Bank staged by Francis Place ; with the distribution by carriers of election posters to all the big towns in Great Britain; and with Macaylay's speech on the passing of the Reform Bill. Other brief ' snapshots ' will deal with votes for women, and a later speech by Mr. Baldwin, now Lord Baldwin.

Zygfryd, born at Ostrowiec, in Poland, has formed this ensemble specially for broadcasting. A Guildhall School of Music student (he came to England when he was eight years old), Zygfryd, in his teens, played his violin, both at the Carlton and the Savoy, and, when barely twenty, became musical director of the Pavilion, Maidstone. He wants the British public to get to know Polish music, which is not often played over here.

The man who probably best typifies modern Arctic exploration is Gino Watkins, who was drowned in the North in 1933. The last two expeditions he led in Greenland are the subject of tonight's talk. J.M. Scott had already travelled with Watkins in Labrador before accompanying him to Greenland, and in addition to the reputation he gained there as a traveller he is now well known as a chronicler of the Arctic.
